¡AY, CARAMBA! Salamanca Trip is Rip-Roaring Success!

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Just got back from a quick trip to Salamanca, filming. I thoroughly enjoyed the city even though I was filming I made sure I kept well stocked up on tapas and Cervezas and even managed to spend one night checking out the nightlife till roughly 7:30am. One thing that did amuse me greatly was Madrid’s enormous Bajaras Airport. Not only did we have to go on both underground trains and shuttle buses which took about 25 minutes to get to the departure gates but we must have walked about the equivalent of 2 miles. Depsite the vast scale of the terminal and the capacity of the airport the smoking sections in there were about 2 metres by 5 metre wide boxes. There was a large number of bemused smokers standing shoulder to shoulder smoking in these little boxes which were just randomly plonked in the middle of enormous wide open spaces. I had to take some pictures with my phone to illustrate this.

I couldn’t imagine the Spanish standing for that long and sure enough the first signs of anarchy began with the smokers spilling out onto the surrounding seating areas. Madness.
